Unimore’s Identity: Rooted in the Territory and Part of an International Network of Cultural and
Scientific Relations
The Rector of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Prof. Carlo A. Porro, opened the ceremony award-
ing an honorary Master’s Degree in Law to Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO. In his address, the
Rector emphasised the value of universitas as a community of people dedicated to shared knowledge, com-
bining research, education, and service to society. Azoulay was honoured for her international commitment
to promoting culture, education, and UNESCO heritage, exemplifying the collaboration between universities
and global institutions in the dissemination of knowledge and the establishment of shared cultural stan-
dards. The ceremony highlighted the University’s historical and international continuity, its commitment to
research, and its openness to global dialogue.
