Unimore and its constant work for inclusion

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia’s decade-long strong commitment to the inclusion of students
with SLD continues and intensifies thanks to the introduction of Law 17/1999, which led to the appointment
of Rectors’ Delegates for Disability by Italian universities and subsequently also to the creation of the CNUDD
                  - National University Conference of Delegates for Disability - in order to share and coordinate experiences
and good practices for the inclusion and integration of students with disabilities. Today, the CNUDD liaises
with the MUR for everything concerning the implementation of the provisions of Law 17/99 and later Law
170/2010 on the integration of students with SLDs.
The principles of the right to study, independent living, active citizenship and inclusion of the weaker catego-
ries in the world of school, society and the world of work that inspire Italian universities have been taken up
by the 2006 UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which in fact guarantees the full and
equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by persons with disabilities, protects them
from any form of discrimination and guarantees their respect and dignity.
Interested in students with SLDs since the 2003/2004 academic year, Unimore provides various compensa-
tory measures to students with DSA and is now part of a widespread network of organisations and institu-
tions that aim to foster the social, educational and work inclusion of individuals with disabilities and with DSA
(whose vision today has shifted towards a paradigm that is no longer medical but bio-psycho-social).
Unimore has always been committed to guaranteeing quality services to students with disabilities and with
DSA, favouring dialogue and reciprocal comparison and monitoring the effectiveness of the services them-
selves, and in this context, an ever-increasing collaboration at both national and international level between
                  universities is desirable.
