di eccellenza per professionisti del settore agro-
alimentare
PhD Programme in Agricultural and Food Sciences and Technologies: a training programme of
excellence for professionals in the agri-food sector
According to recent ISTAT estimates, in 2019-2020 the Italian agri-food system has proved to be one of the
cornerstones of the national economy, in fact it has contributed to over 15% of Italian GDP. Therefore, the
demand for highly qualified professionals in the field of agri-food disciplines is very high. In this context,
the PhD Programme in “Agricultural and Food Sciences and Technologies” (STEBA) trains PhD students
with high skills in the various fields of agri-food, including production, processing, quality and safety of raw
materials and food, creating suitable figures to work as researchers in universities, public or private bodies,
and in the industrial field. The profile of PhD in Agricultural and Food Sciences and Technologies is therefore
that of an expert professional who is able to move independently in its own sector, with a high ability to ad-
dress issues and independently manage research and projects. The PhD programme has a duration of three
years and currently has 42 PhD students. The teaching activity facilitates the transfer of knowledge, offers
a consolidated collaboration with national and international research bodies and the availability of adequate
funds ensures the quality of the training offer and research topics. Many international collaborations with
universities and research institutions are in place within the PhD programme, giving all PhD students the
opportunity to carry out a period of training abroad on specific topics in the agri-food sector. The STEBA
PhD Programme also boasts a strong participation in projects aimed at obtaining doctoral and networking
scholarships at European level.
