The pharmaceutical industry is one of the driving forces of the Italian economy, with production exceeding
€50 billion in 2023, largely destined for export. A powerful engine of innovation and employment, the sector
invests heavily in research and development, focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as biopharmaceu-
ticals, artificial intelligence, and nanomedicine. In this evolving landscape, Unimore plays a strategic role.
Through the work of Professor Giovanni Tosi and the Nanotech TefarTI laboratory, the University is at the
forefront of developing nanomedicines for the targeted delivery of drugs and genetic material. Unimore is
actively involved in national and European platforms, contributing to both industrial and clinical innovation,
and strengthening the bridge between academic research and the production system.This article explores
the figures, challenges, and future perspectives of the sector, highlighting Unimore’s scientific and techno-
