Geodiversity, Geological Heritage and Geoconservation: Interview with Prof. Piotr Migoń, visiting
Professor at the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences
The Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences at Unimore has recently hosted Professor Piotr Migoń
from the University of Wroclaw (Poland) as a Visiting Professor, offering an intensive course aimed at PhD
students and young researchers on “Geodiversity and Geoheritage – Contribution of Geosciences to the
Global Environmental Agenda.” Under the supervision of Prof. Mauro Soldati, the course covered topics
such as geodiversity, geological heritage, geoconservation, and UNESCO Global Geoparks, analyzed both
theoretically and through practical applications. In an interview, Prof. Migoń explained the course contents,
highlighting the active engagement of students and the importance of his long-standing collaboration with
Unimore, developed over more than a decade of shared scientific work. He also shared memorable profes-
sional experiences in spectacular environments worldwide, from Antarctica to the American deserts, and
praised Italian landscapes like Monte Giovo. Finally, he offered advice to young geologists, encouraging
patience and a long-term vision in building a professional career. Prof. Migoń, a leading scholar in geomor-
phology and geoheritage, has an extensive international academic career and publication record and is a
member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
