Qualità e servizi per la disabilità e i DSA: il punto di
vista degli studenti
“Wisdom is knowing how to be with difference without wanting to eliminate difference”

Attention to the various expressions of disability has been promoted for years by Unimore and is embod-
ied in the Reception Service for students with disabilities and with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD). This
service offers an opportunity for everyone to meet for educational growth, beyond the limits of their health
condition. Within the Reception Service there are professionals with relational, organisational, psychological,
pedagogical, as well as administrative and accounting skills who, among other practical and technical objec-
tives, aim to implement the quality of the offer. It was decided to promote a survey to identify any critical
issues and to reinforce the positive elements confirming the effectiveness of the service, through students’
perceptions of our work. It leads to reflection that, of the 47% of students with disabilities who do not attend
classes, 57% say they are prevented from doing so for health or work reasons, while the opposite is true
of SLD students who, in a very high percentage, attend classes regularly. Attention was then turned to the
various support activities that the Reception Service offers these students. It was deemed useful to ask
questions on: Study method (students who request it can avail themselves of qualified study method coun-
selling), Tutoring (there is the possibility of being supported by a tutor), Computer aids (it is possible to have
computer tools on loan), Compensatory measures. With regard to the latter, according to the diagnoses and
medical-clinical certifications of students with disabilities and/or SLDs, services must be recognised, also by
our university, specifically regulated and agreed upon through individual interviews.
It is gratifying and relevant to receive positive feedback on the service’s activities, to continue to carry out
with care and diligence, so that all students with functional diversity are guaranteed equal rights and op-
portunities for study and research.
